Volcano grilled chicken on Lanzarote

“What would you take to a desert island?” is probably another way to ask, “Who or what is really close to your heart?" In my life, I have met many people, collected many things and lived through many moments – some of them are recorded in photographs and books. And yet, photos and stories are never as beautiful as reality.
 
To us, Lanzarote was a reminder of leisure time when our kids were little and to an island tour with camels, grapevines, and a chicken that was roasted on a volcano grill. “Just look, don’t touch” was the motto because the consumption of the island’s delicacy had not been part of the tour arrangement.
 
Since then we have repeatedly tried to get such a culinary delicacy on the plate. Once I had already booked another family vacation in Lanzarote, but had to cancel it due to a half-year work assignment in the U.S. Later, we vacationed on the neighboring island, at the Playa de las Américas on Tenerife. Although there was “a guada Huat – a good hat” for our youngest, but we found no volcano grill. The return to Lanzarote remains an open item on the family to-do list.
